Safety

OHS Commitment

At WDS we hold safety as a core value and are committed to eliminating injury and illness from our workplaces.  Our foundations for achieving Zero Harm centre around a relentless pursuit of continual improvement in the following key areas:

  • Leadership and empowerment at all levels
  • Behaviour and personal responsibility
  • Practices and systems of work
  • Work environment and equipment

OHS Management

We believe in a practical approach toward safety management and have implemented an OHS management system combining strong corporate governance with the flexibility to meet the changing needs of our projects and clients.  Our system is comprised of the key elements as pictured below and is accredited to AS/NZS 4801 and the Australian Government Building & Construction OHS Accreditation Scheme.

OHS Performance

We actively measure our safety performance by a balance of lead indicators, lag indicators and regular surveys with our people.

With respect to injury reduction, our journey toward Zero Harm is well under way and we continue to set challenging targets for each of our Divisions.

During the course of 2009, the WDS Group reduced its Total Recordable Injury Frequency Rate by an impressive 74%. Looking ahead we expect continued success in this regard as we build upon our strong safety culture and derive value from key behavioural and leadership initiatives.
