We completed the design and construction of a Vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) in cooperation with SMEC (Southern Mining Electrical Contractors) and UPS (Ultra Power Systems) for a mining camp's bore pump system.

Detailed considerations:

Pre-installation load testing of the battery confirms the calculated data and design parameters. Integration includes remote monitoring of the system through a mobile app.

The bore will only operate on solar, wind and battery to supply water for the mining camp, and no fossil fuels are to be used for generation.

VRFB can operate in a wide range of temperatures and is also non-flammable. The majority life span of the battery is more than 20 years.

The driver for the project was based on cost savings, increased reliability and increasing their green energy profile. Leasing arrangements through SMEC has reduced costs for the camp starting from day one.
